Spirulina Shake

If you are like me, always looking for a healthy and easy recipe that you can make in 5 minutes, then this is the recipe for you. Shakes are always my go to because let's face it, there isn't always time to cook or prepare anything that takes longer than 10 minutes. Life happens.

I like experimenting with shakes because I can come up with so many creations and it never gets old. One of the ingredients I recently started using in my shakes is spirulina, a blue/green algae that comes from a freshwater plant. The nutritional profile of spirulina is magnificent because it is packed with numerous vitamins and nutrients.

Spirulina is rich in protein, essential amino acids (which cannot be made by the body), B vitamins (to help with mood regulation), vitamin A (for healthy eyes), and much more. Spirulina can be very effective in lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, preventing cancer and aiding in weight loss.

Imagine getting all of these benefits with just a few teaspoons of spirulina powder a day. I'm sold.

Here is my recipe for this beautiful spirulina shake, enjoy!

  • 1- 1 1/2 cups almond milk
  • 2 tsps spirulina powder. I personally use Earthrise(R) brand.
  • 1 scoop protein powder (optional)
  • 1 handful of kale
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • 1 Tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes

Blend all ingredients until smooth.
